SSS (Course Rating):xxx

Carton House (Montgomerie)The second of two courses to be opened at the majestic Carton House, the "Monty" as it is affectionately known, opened in 2003 to rave reviews due to it's uniqueness of design and it's inherent challenge to play. Designed by seven times European number 1, Colin Montgomerie, the course offers a very different challenge to that of it's neighbour, the O Meara Course. Situated on a rather exposed and open area of the tree lined estate, the Montgomerie was designed with very much a links feel to it with it's sweeping, rolling fairways, devilish rough and of course it's exposure to the elements. In true links style the Montgomerie is also protected by over 100 exceptionally placed and often cavernous bunkers which means the player is constantly forced to think of strategy and plot their way around.

Adding to the beauty of the Montgomerie and offered by the open nature of the terrain on which the course is situated are the views of the Rye Water Lake. The advice however is not to get too taken away with the scenery as the sting in the tail is when at the 18th tee box you are faced with the lake coming in to play on both the tee shot and then again for your second as you are forced to carry it to find the green! While famed for being a tough test of golf, make no mistake about it the Montgomerie is a wonderful course to play and it is only by doing so that one can appreciate the quality of design. The strategicly placed bunkers make it imperative to plot your way around this course.

The "Monty" will have you thinking about your every move as you plot your way around the course but after all isn't this what links style golf is all about!
