ACCOMMODATION REVIEW
Lying in the shadows of Mount Errigal, the recently refurbished Rosapenna Hotel is located on the Bay of Sheephaven, an area of huge historical importance and the scene where Owen Roe O' Neill landed on his return from Europe to lead the 1642 rising. The wild Atlantic waves have chiselled the area's rugged features for thousands of years, while the beauty is spectacular and the air invigorating. Old Tom Morris designed the famous Old Links at Rosapenna, while Pat Ruddy has worked wonders with the newer Sandy Hills Course. Today, both are amongst the finest links courses in the northwest.
One of the most endearing aspects of the Rosapenna Hotel is the overwhelmingly warm welcome that all guests receive. This hotel has not been tainted by the all too common drive towards commercial success and this shows in the atmosphere of the place. Tranquil lounges and elegant dining areas, which overlook the bay, create a congenial atmosphere and a perfect place for visitors to relax and enjoy themselves. The bedrooms, most of which offer superb sea views, range from standard and deluxe to spacious suites and provide the utmost in comfort and elegance. Guests relax in the hotel's swimming pool and unwind in the whirlpool and steam room.
When not golfing, guests can visit nearby Doe Castle, ancient home of MacSweeney family since the 16th Century, while situated just a short drive away, is Glenveagh National Park, one of Europe's most scenic and un-spoilt areas of wilderness and a unique wildlife preserve that extends across 16,000 hectares of lakes, mountains, woods and wild bog. Set in the secluded valley is Glenveagh Castle with its remarkable gardens and provides a brilliant contrast to the Wildlife Park.
